What pin count actually means
Pin count is the number of separate electrical contact points the connector must land on. The strip’s printed labels, polarity symbols or channel names show what those contacts do. A connector can have the correct number of contacts and still be incompatible if the contact spacing or sequence does not match the copper pads.

Why selected 2-pin models can cover COB and SMD
Some 2-pin connector designs can contact either COB or SMD strips because both strips present two compatible copper pads at the cut point. This is conditional compatibility—not a rule for every 2-pin strip.
- The nominal strip width matches the connector channel.
- The two copper pads align with the connector contacts.
- The cover layer and LED components do not block insertion.
- The polarity and contact sequence are correct.
- The electrical requirement remains inside the exact model specification.
Why 3-pin and 4-pin need a separate COB/SMD check
As pin count increases, pad spacing and channel sequence create more ways for a connector to be mechanically close but electrically wrong. COB and SMD strips can also place components and cover material differently around the cut point. Width is an independent field
