Choose the connector for the strip's actual PCB width, then verify contact count, pad position, strip thickness and connection route. An 8 mm connector and a 10 mm connector are not interchangeable simply because both have two contacts. Width is a starting point, not a complete compatibility specification.
Measure the strip, not the lighting channel
The width used to shortlist a strip connector is the width of the flexible circuit board at the connection point. An aluminium profile, diffuser or protective sleeve can be wider than the PCB. Record those outside dimensions separately because they determine whether the completed joint will fit inside the installation.
Photograph the cut end beside a ruler, with the copper pads and markings visible. Also provide the strip manufacturer's reference. If a coating or sleeve covers the contact area, identify it before selecting a connector; do not assume an open indoor connector will preserve that strip's protection.
8 mm and 10 mm: what actually changes?
| Check | 8 mm strip | 10 mm strip |
|---|---|---|
| Connector channel | Shortlist a model intended for an 8 mm PCB. | Shortlist a model intended for a 10 mm PCB. |
| Number of contacts | Read the strip markings; width does not establish pin count. | Read the strip markings; a wider PCB does not establish a different circuit. |
| COB or SMD | Check pad geometry and component clearance. | Check pad geometry and component clearance. |
| Installation space | Compare the connector's outside dimensions with the channel. | Allow for the housing and cable exit, not only the PCB width. |
| Electrical approval | Review the exact model and assembled connection. | A wider connector is not automatically rated for more current. |
Two 2-pin strip-to-wire models to compare
For an initial shortlist, the VEXIRA catalogue lists these ELIX press-fit connectors for COB and SMD strips. Both examples use a strip-to-wire route. This is a comparison of existing model references, not confirmation that every strip of the same width will fit.

View the 10 mm model and specifications →Need a straight strip-to-strip join, a corner or a wire bridge? Use the LED strip connector catalogue to compare routes. Do not substitute a strip-to-wire model solely because its width matches. For contact-count questions, see the 2-pin, 3-pin and 4-pin guide.
Check a real sample before ordering a batch
Use the intended production strip, not only a similar sample from another reel supplier. With power disconnected, check insertion depth, alignment, retention and clearance. Follow the exact connector instructions for its closing mechanism. A latch design and a press-fit design may require different handling.
Then have the completed assembly checked under its intended electrical and installation conditions. Keep the strip reference, connector ordering code and any agreed cable specification together as the approval record. If the strip design changes later, recheck compatibility.
What to send for a wholesale quotation
- Strip reference, PCB width and a clear photo of the cut-end pads.
- Contact count, channel order and COB or SMD construction.
- Strip-to-wire, strip-to-strip, corner or bridge requirement.
- Supply voltage, expected circuit current and installation environment.
- Cable requirements, sample quantity, batch quantity and destination.
MOQ, lead time and any custom cable or packaging requirement are confirmed for the selected model in the quotation. See our sample and document review process.
Common selection questions
Can I use a 10 mm connector on an 8 mm strip?
Do not assume compatibility. A wider channel can leave the strip incorrectly located relative to the contacts. Select the specified width and confirm a sample.
Does 2-pin mean it fits every single-colour strip?
No. Width, pad spacing, thickness, construction and the connector's mechanical design must also match.
Should I order both sizes for my lighting range?
Only if your actual strip range requires both. Build a strip-to-connector model list, approve each pairing, and order quantities against that list.
