What changes between COB and SMD strips?

COB strips use a continuous light-emitting surface, while SMD strips expose individual LED packages. For connector selection, the most important difference is not the lighting effect; it is the geometry near the cut point. The connector must reach the copper pads without being blocked by coating, components or pad spacing.

Why 2-pin is sometimes shared

In many single-color strips, 2-pin means positive and negative only. If the connector channel, copper pads and insertion depth match, selected ELIX 2-pin formats can serve both COB and SMD strips. This is a model-specific compatibility result, not a universal rule.

Why 3-pin and 4-pin need more care

Multi-channel strips introduce channel sequence, contact spacing and polarity risks. A 10 mm 3-pin COB strip and a 10 mm 3-pin SMD strip can still require different connector geometry. For quotations, separate COB and SMD unless the exact ELIX model has been confirmed for both.
