Confirm these seven fields: COB or SMD construction, strip width, pin count, copper-pad layout, connection route, electrical and wire requirement, and protection level. Then test the connector with the actual strip before a volume order.
1. Start with COB or SMD construction
COB and SMD describe how the LEDs are arranged on the strip, but the connector must make contact with the strip’s exposed copper pads. Two strips can share the same nominal width and still differ in pad position, cover layer, cut mark or component clearance.
For selected VEXIRA 2-pin formats, one connector can serve both COB and SMD strips when width and conductor layout match. For 3-pin and 4-pin strips, treat COB and SMD as separate compatibility checks unless the exact model data says otherwise.
2. Match strip width and pin count separately
Width controls the mechanical channel. Pin count controls how many electrical contacts must align with the strip. Confirm both values; never infer one from the other.

3. Choose the connection route
The installation layout determines the connector format. Decide whether you are joining two strips, taking power to a wire, routing around a corner or using a protected connection.
Strip-to-strip
Extends or repairs a straight run without a wire section.
Strip-to-wire
Connects the strip to a driver, cable or another wiring point.
Wire-to-strip-to-wire
Uses a wire bridge between strip sections or around an obstacle.
Corner / L-shape
Changes direction in a cabinet, channel, shelf or display layout.
In the VEXIRA Quick-Press naming system, -1 identifies a single-end wire format, -2 a double-end wire format and -L an L-shaped corner format. A code without those suffixes is normally the middle strip-to-strip route. Confirm the final ordering code before quotation.
4. Specify wire length and conductor details
Wired assemblies require more than a connector body selection. Record the requested wire length, conductor size, insulation, color or polarity and whether one or both ends need a connector. Standard product images may show one wire length while the supplied assembly is made to the approved specification.

5. Confirm electrical requirements against the exact model
Use the strip’s voltage, expected current and installation conditions to review the connector model. Do not apply a family-level current claim to every width, pin count or wired configuration. The connector, conductor and strip must all be suitable for the same circuit requirement.
6. Separate indoor and protected applications
An open connector intended for a dry cabinet or channel is not automatically suitable for outdoor signage, damp locations or a sealed strip. Record the required protection level, cable or strip jacket dimensions and whether the final junction will be inside another enclosure.
If an IP rating or test document is required, confirm it against the exact connector and assembly—not only the product family name.
7. Test the actual strip and connector together
Before a medium- or high-volume order, use the production strip or a representative cut sample. Check insertion, pad alignment, latch or press operation, wire routing and the electrical result under the intended load and installation method.
- The strip enters to the intended stop without damage.
- Contacts land on the correct copper pads.
- The strip remains retained after normal handling.
- Polarity and channel order are correct.
- The connector fits the available channel or cabinet space.
- The approved model and any approved wire length are recorded.
